This website (the "Site") is owned and operated by British Sugar plc. British Sugar plc is part of the Associated British Foods group of companies. British Sugar plc is the data controller of all personal data collected via this Site. References to "we", "our" or "us" in this privacy statement mean British Sugar plc.

  • for recruitment and selection purposes (including sharing information with the resource partners (recruitment agencies) we use as part of our selection activities); and

We will only keep your information for as long as is necessary for these purposes.
 
Some services and facilities available via the Site can be offered only if you supply us with a certain minimum level of information. For example, if you would like us to respond to a query or would like to register as a site user you will be required to provide us with your contact details.
 
We may also ask you to provide information about yourself which it may not be essential for us to have but which will assist us to provide and enhance our services. When we ask you for this kind of information we will make it clear that its supply is optional.

Job applications
 
Any employment application you send us via the Site will be treated as confidential and will be considered only by personnel who are authorised to do so, and the resource partners (recruitment agencies) we use as part of our selection activities. A manager or resource partner may contact you if they consider that you are suitable for a particular job.
 
If you make an application to us, we will use any information you or others send to us in order to consider your application and for our legitimate interests in managing recruitment. If your application is successful, relevant information will be used for the purpose of administering your subsequent employment and will be retained, in accordance with our data retention policy, for as long as necessary for this purpose.
 
If your application is unsuccessful, we will hold details of your application for a period of 6 months to deal with any matter which may arise in connection with your application. We may also use the information during this period to consider your suitability for other vacancies within British Sugar plc. If any roles within the wider ABF group of companies arise during this period which we feel you may be suitable for, we may contact you in order to seek your consent prior to sharing your details. Background checks
 
For certain positions it may be necessary for us to verify the details you have provided (for example, in relation to your academic credentials) and/or carry out background checks (for example, in relation to previous criminal convictions). We may use third party service providers to carry out these checks on our behalf. If a position that is, or may be, of interest to you requires background checks, we will tell you about this. We will carry out background checks only where permitted by local law and with your consent.
 
Where do we transfer your information to?
 
We may transfer your information to, or store it, outside the European Economic Area ("EEA") in countries where standards of data protection are not equivalent to those that apply inside the EEA. If we do this we will comply with all relevant data protection legislation.
